Raz-Kids has over 400+ eBooks that students may access that I will be able to track their reading comprehension and fluency.
Reading Newsela
Newsela, is an innovative way to build on stricly non fiction reading comprehension. It features current news worth articles at five reading levels and attaches comprehension quizzes for each level. All students can participate in the same conversation by reading the same content, but at a level that’s accessible to each student. I will be using the quizzes that test critical thinking and close reading for the articles read.
SummerReads --
Students who don’t read much over the summer show a decline in reading performance from the end of one grade to the start of the next. Research done at Harvard University by James Kim shows that even reading 4 or 5 books over the summer helps to prevent the summer slump.
The SummerReads program includes resources for teachers, students and parents:

The SummerReads program includes resources for teachers, students and parents:
- Each book starts with guidelines on how to use the book.
- There are comprehension questions at the end of each book.
- There is a place where students can keep records of their reading of chapters within books.
- If students have access to computers (e.g., the library), a recording of each text will be made available. This recording allows students to monitor and check their reading.
Number bonds = better understanding
Fact Families are sets of three numbers that can be added and subtracted or divided and multiply together and they help develop the understanding of the relationship between addition and subtraction or multiplication and division. Below are some online games/activities that I have found that support this.
Fact Family Game , Fact Family Practice Grade 1 , AlienMunch Addition Fact Family Game , Which Number is Missing (Fact Family),

Key vocabulary for english language arts and literacy
The following lists include words that are geared specifically to grade-level use in English Language Arts. Students will be using these words during classroom instruction throughout the year. These lists are NOT intended to be a “memorize” sheet of vocabulary words. Rather, it is intended as an instructional resource to ensure that they are utilized and incoporated into the daily practices of our students.

Reader's Workshop...
It is critical that you child be reading "just right books" 2 hours a day (total all day), 7 days a week to maintain even just one year‘s reading growth. The importance of daily reading can not be stressed enough. All students should be reading for longer stretches of time each day. They should be making time for reading and they should begin, continue through, and complete books at a good pace.
